Aden's Chamber of Commerce Warns of Severe Consequences as Yemen's Currency Collapses

News - Yemen: Only hours after the banking sector announced a comprehensive strike and work stoppage, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the occupied city of Aden issued a warning on Tuesday about an impending famine in the southern and eastern provinces, which are under the control of the Saudi-Emirati occupation.

The warning stems from the ongoing collapse of the Yemeni riyal against other foreign currencies, reaching an unprecedented level as the value of the dollar surpassed the 1600 riyal threshold.

The statement of the Chamber of Commerce in occupied Aden highlighted that the depreciation of the national currency has left the majority of citizens unable to afford their basic food needs, resulting in many families having only one meal per day.

The statement urged the pro-aggression government to take immediate action to halt the currency collapse and prevent the population in Aden and other occupied provinces from facing hunger and famine.

Aden's Chamber of Commerce emphasized that the economic downturn in Aden and the occupied areas is causing numerous economic and social disasters and disruptions.

Sources attribute the surge in foreign currency prices to the failure of the Saudi-backed government to implement necessary economic measures to stabilize the local currency's value. This failure is linked to the printing of nearly 6 trillion Yemeni rials without adequate cash cover in recent years.

The economic collapse has severely impacted the living conditions of citizens in Aden and other southern provinces, reaching a point where the government is unable to fulfill its obligation to pay teachers' salaries for the last month in Aden. This dire situation highlights the urgent need for comprehensive economic reforms and intervention to address the currency crisis and mitigate its repercussions on the population.
