123 Journalists Killed Since the Start of the Zionist Aggression on Gaza

News - Middle East: The Government Media Office reported on Tuesday an increase in the number of journalist martyrs to 123 journalists since the start of the genocidal war on the Gaza Strip on October 7th, following the martyrdom of journalist Razek Al-Gharabli, director of the Palestinian Media Center in the Gaza Strip.

Al-Gharabli was martyred due to the targeting by Israeli forces and the continuous shelling of citizens' homes in the Khan Yunis Governorate, south of the Gaza Strip.

The Israeli enemy deliberately targets journalists and their families in its aggression on the Strip, thereby violating the rules of international and humanitarian law and the Fourth Geneva Convention, which stipulates the protection of journalists.

The International Federation of Journalists stated that "the risk of death for Palestinian journalists in Gaza is higher than the risk of death for soldiers on the front lines of combat zones."

This came in a statement by the Deputy Secretary-General of the International Federation of Journalists, Tim Dawson, who affirmed that a thousand Palestinian journalists were working in the area when Zionist attacks on Gaza began. Still, after a while, the killing of journalists became a "daily event."

He said, "Journalists in Gaza equipped with cameras, microphones, and notebooks face the most brutal attack from one of the most technologically advanced armies in the world."

The statement also noted the prevention of international media institutions from entering Gaza, strongly emphasizing the importance of journalists in informing the global public opinion about what is happening in Gaza.

The statement called for "putting pressure on governments supporting Israeli attacks to stop the massacre in Gaza" and described the fate of journalists in Gaza as a "humanitarian disaster," adding: "We are witnessing one of the most brutal and heinous campaigns of repression on freedom of expression in modern times, following the closure of borders to international correspondents and unprecedented killing operations."
