News - World: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated on Sunday that the recent escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict and its extension, along with the ongoing tension in the Red Sea, once again proves that the issue of Palestine lies at the heart of the Middle East issue.

During his speech at the Munich Security Conference, the Chinese minister pointed out that "generations of the Palestinian people have been displaced and have not been able to return to their homes to this day," considering it "the longest-lasting injustice in our world."

He affirmed that "China has stood firmly on the side of justice and fairness all along, and worked vigorously to end the conflict and protect civilians," adding that Beijing "pushed the UN Security Council to adopt its first resolution since the recent outbreak of conflict and issued a position paper on the political settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict."

The Foreign Minister emphasized that "China calls for accelerating efforts to establish an independent Palestinian state and convening a broader and more effective international peace conference to achieve genuine peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel."

Wang Yi met with his American counterpart, Antony Blinken, on the sidelines of the Munich conference, where the two exchanged views on Sino-American relations and international and regional issues of common concern.

In a press release on Saturday, the UK Foreign Office stated that Cameron urged his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi at the Munich Security Conference on Friday, to use its influence on Iran to pressure Yemen over its actions in the Red Sea.

However, the Chinese minister affirmed that his country would not allow the humanitarian crisis in the Gaza Strip to continue, stating that to address the issue of the Red Sea, "the root cause must be resolved, and the root cause is the ongoing fighting in Gaza."

Wang Yi noted that Palestine has never achieved its legitimate national rights or established an independent state, stressing that "this is the root of all problems and the essence of the Middle East issue."

He pointed out that "the United States must work earnestly to enhance the ceasefire and the two-state solution."
