Bloomberg: Yemeni Fighters Increase by Tens of Thousands Since Start of US-UK Airstrikes

News – World: Yemeni Armed Forces have shown remarkable success in managing the "asymmetric warfare," Bloomberg reported, underscoring the vulnerabilities faced by wealthy and militarily advanced countries like the United States.

In a report published on Monday, the agency emphasizes that the Yemeni Armed Forces "are proving that the developed West faces rising challenges on two fronts from weaker enemies. And for all the still-extraordinary power of US carrier fleets, the answer to those challenges can’t always boil down to just getting tougher, drawing lines, and establishing deterrence – the standard Washington strategy."

The report highlights that the first challenge is that "advances in the production of missiles and drones have democratized extremely powerful weapons that until recently were available only to the richest states. The suicide vest and improvised explosive device are being replaced by the suicide drone and precision-guided missile."

The report pointed out that the Yemeni Armed Forces are demonstrating in real-time just how target-rich developed nations are. Wealthy, complex societies such as the US have a lot more to attack (and lose) than Yemen.

The report explained that if oil tankers have to shift to longer, more expensive routes than the Suez Canal, nudging up the price of gasoline at US pumps, Yemen will be much less affected.

The report added another comparison, stating that if US troops were to be killed, that would be a political problem for the Biden administration, but if the US kills Yemenis, that would be a political boon for Yemen, noting that the fighters in the Yemeni Armed Forces have been "flooded with tens of thousands of recruits" since the start of American attacks.

The report advised the United States to "resist the temptation to escalate its fight" with Yemen, pointing out that airstrikes will not deter the Armed Forces.

It also indicated that escalation options against Yemen will involve greater risks "that would only add to US troubles in the Middle East."
