April 7: Schools in Sana'a and Sa'adah Targeted by US-Saudi Aggression

Yemen: April 7 continues to serve as a grim reminder of the relentless brutality inflicted by the US-Saudi aggression, which has spared no effort in targeting public facilities and schools across Yemen over the past nine years.

On this date, the aggression perpetrated appalling crimes that are etched into the memory of the Yemeni people, serving as enduring testaments to the atrocities committed by the aggressors.

April 7, 2015: Aggression Strikes Public Facilities in Sa'adah

In the early hours of April 7, 2015, amid the US-Saudi aggression's ruthless onslaught on Yemen, public facilities in the Al-Malahiz area of Sa'adah province bore the brunt of the aggression's military agenda. Airstrikes decimated the Al-Aqsa Medical Clinic, communication networks, water projects, and desalination tanks, along with a block factory and a crusher.

The airstrikes on public facilities in Al-Malahiz laid bare the aggressors' intent to obliterate infrastructure and disrupt all facets of life in Yemen, particularly in Sa'adah province and its border districts. This onslaught served as a precursor to genocide, instilling terror in the hearts of civilians, compelling them to flee or capitulate, and targeting the domestic front and popular support networks after depriving them of essential health services, water, and more.

April 7, 2018: Aggression Targets School in Razih, Sa'adah

Entering its fourth year, the US-Saudi aggression, having relocated the Yemeni Central Bank and slashed salaries, did not spare education from its deliberate onslaught. Schools became prime targets in the aggression's bid to dismantle the educational infrastructure in Yemen. On April 7, 2018, criminal airstrikes struck the Imam Ali School in the Razih district. This assault was but one in a series of attacks on schools, with countless others having been targeted and rendered inoperable before it.

In the aftermath of the airstrikes that leveled the school, a student amidst the chaos of his peers in the preparatory classes was found lying on the ground, declaring, "By Allah, your airstrikes on our schools and our homes will not deter us from pursuing our education. We stand resolute like mountains, and you will not deprive us of our rightful and lawful education. Instead, your airstrikes only bolster our resolve and sense of duty, deepening our appreciation for education and our right to access it."

As the aggression's airstrikes razed the Imam Ali School, the silence of UNICEF and other United Nations bodies tasked with supporting the education sector spoke volumes, failing to protect its facilities and condemn their targeting during times of war and conflict.

April 7, 2019: Tragedy Strikes Al-Ra'i School in Sa'awan

In 2019, the ongoing brutality of the US-Saudi aggression continues to inflict deep wounds in the hearts of those affected and the families of the victims.

On April 7, 2019, as the US-Saudi aggression entered its fifth year, warplanes intensified their flights over the heads of the students of Al-Ra'i School and the residents of the adjacent neighborhood, unleashing a devastating onslaught that shattered their dreams, aspirations, and fundamental right to education. The airstrikes plunged the area into a state of overwhelming terror and fear, separating young students from the embrace of their mothers and families just hours before the bombardment commenced.

Within the classrooms, the screams of hundreds of students echoed as they witnessed imminent death before their eyes. The sight of blood staining their belongings and the remnants of their morning meals painted a harrowing picture for the innocent children.

Amid the chaos, teachers struggled to calm their students as panic and fear swept through the school. Some students fell wounded, others became martyrs, while many lay unconscious amidst the chaos and destruction.

As news of the heinous crime spread, parents rushed to the scene, their faces frozen in shock and horror. Mothers called out desperately for their children, fathers, and brothers left their work in haste to check on their loved ones. Some mothers fainted from fear, others were rushed to intensive care due to the shock of the news.

This was not a fictional tale but a grim reality witnessed by many, with its pillars of tragedy and its martyrs whose souls were claimed by the horror of the crime. The targeted airstrike on Al-Ra'i Girls' School and the adjacent homes of citizens on April 7 resulted in the loss of 14 lives and left 95 injured, plunging millions of Yemeni hearts into grief and sorrow.

In the aftermath of the atrocity, as ambulances and civil defense teams rushed to the scene, the capital, Sana'a, and all of Yemen were shrouded in extreme sadness. Yet, amidst the devastation, the Yemeni people stood resilient, challenging the complicity of the international community and demanding justice for the victims of the aggressor tyrants.
