US-UK Opposition to Easing Yemen's Currency Problem, Exposes their Leading Role in the Economic War for Nine Years

Yemen: The American, British, and European sponsors of the aggression and blockade on Yemen have shown great concern over the issuance of a 100 Yemeni Riyal coin by the Yemeni Central Bank to replace damaged banknotes.

This move clearly reveals the positive impact of addressing the economic consequences of the war that have been inflicted by the aggression sponsors, primarily the Americans and British, on the local currency for nine years, including printing trillions of illegal banknotes that led to an unprecedented collapse of the Yemeni Riyal's value in occupied areas.

Moreover, this concern highlights America's direct involvement in the decision of the puppet [pro-aggression] government to blackmail banks in Sanaa by demanding them to relocate their headquarters from the capital, viewed by officials as an additional attempt to pressure Sanaa into retracting its supportive stance towards Gaza.

The US Embassy in that government issued a statement on Thursday condemning the issuance of the new currency by the Central Bank in Sanaa and called for preventing the circulation of this currency in the markets. This stance revealed hysterical irritation over the metallic currency, which cannot be considered new but rather a substitute for damaged banknotes. Similar statements were also issued by the British Embassy, the French Embassy, and the EU Mission in Yemen.

In response, the head of the national delegation representing Ansarullah, Mohammed Abdulsalam, expressed astonishment at these statements, stating that minting a 100 Riyal coin was not arbitrary but a necessary step to replace damaged paper currency.

He questioned why America and European countries were irritated by the Yemeni Central Bank's partial solution to the national currency's situation, which has been subjected to economic warfare by the coalition and America itself.

This same astonishment indicated the clearest answer to the reasons behind Western American irritation, which is that Sanaa has started to address the economic consequences of the war that the Americans and Western allies heavily relied on as a weapon and blackmail tool to subdue the Yemeni people and punish them economically for their stances.

This was also affirmed by the Yemeni Central Bank in a statement issued on Friday, condemning the positions of the American and British embassies regarding the issuance of the 100 Riyal coin, considering those positions as "blatant and unlawful interference in the affairs of Yemen, and as a continuation of the economic war led by the US-Saudi aggression against the Yemeni people for nine years."

The statement added, "The United States' opposition to the issuance of the metallic currency and its dissatisfaction with the widespread popular relief is nothing but another evidence of the American hostile stance towards the Yemeni people, as it directly led the war on the economy and the national currency".

It emphasized that the bank "did not find those positions surprising; as they confirm what has become clear to the Yemeni people, that the so-called international quartet led by America is the one that planned and managed the economic war on Yemen, starting from the transfer of central bank functions, to targeting the national currency with counterfeiting, forgery, and illegal issuance, using its cheap tools of mercenaries and traitors."

It continued, "The clear irritation shown in those positions towards the metallic currency reveals the rejection of the US-Saudi aggression countries and their allies to any step that would alleviate the suffering of the Yemeni people and improve the economic and living conditions. This completely aligns with their role as the maker and planner of that suffering".

He pointed out that "those positions also revealed the contradiction of the so-called international quartet led by America, which was annoyed by the issuance of the metallic currency as an alternative solution to the damaged currency. They are the ones who planned and managed the printing of more than five trillion Yemeni riyals of illegal and counterfeit currency, causing its collapse in value and the subsequent deterioration of the economic and living conditions of the Yemeni people, especially in the Southern occupied areas."

In the context of American hysteria towards the positive step to end the problem of damaged currency, Washington pushed the Central Bank under the control of the mercenaries in Aden to demand commercial banks to relocate their headquarters from Sanaa, or else they will be punished under "terrorism financing" laws. This was considered by the member of the national negotiating delegation, Abdulmalik Al-Ejri, as "an escalatory step among other escalatory steps driven by clear American motives to pressure Sanaa's stance on Gaza."

He added that "although it is a futile American attempt, the puppet government sees it as an opportunity to evade the peace commitments and sabotage the roadmap," confirming that "those keen on peace and the roadmap, especially the Saudi Kingdom as the main party in it, should put an end to this childish puppetry."

This was also clarified by the Deputy Foreign Minister, Hussein Al-Ezzi, who said: "The unjustified escalation of the mercenaries towards replacing the damaged 100 riyals and their insistence on undermining what we have built with our neighbors comes as a result of American pushback, in retaliation for Yemen's supportive stance towards Gaza".

He noted that "America is making Saudi Arabia eat garlic, as the mercenaries are still linked to it as the primary leadership of the coalition. Acting in good faith, we expect Riyadh to put an end to this nonsense."

These responses demonstrated the extent of American confusion in dealing with the achievement made by Sanaa in addressing the economic consequences of the war. It is clear that Washington tried to compensate for its failure with an opposite economic and political escalation, which was not new.

The Central Bank, which is under the control of the mercenaries, has tried several times to force banks to relocate their headquarters from Sanaa, but they did not comply. Also, attempting to sabotage the peace process through this step adds nothing new, as the United States is already obstructing the signing of the roadmap, as clearly stated by the national leadership.

Therefore, this escalation only reveals Washington's deadlock in confronting Sanaa, which has not only rejected all economic and political pressures to retract its supportive stance towards Gaza but has also moved to address the currency problems to withdraw the enemies' blackmail and pressure cards.

Direct and explicit messages from Sanaa to Riyadh about the necessity of stopping its mercenaries' mischief put the United States in a situation where it might find itself in a broader crisis with the Saudi regime, which, despite its compliance with American pressures regarding the roadmap, does not want to risk losing it entirely, as it is the only option that serves its real interests.

The statement of the Central Bank emphasized this point, affirming that it will continue its steps to address all possible issues and confront all conspiracies against the country amid the continued obstruction and hindrance of peace steps. It added that "those who claim to care about the Yemeni people should transition from procrastination to peace steps, which are in everyone's interest, instead of creating obstacles."
