Yemen Condemns US-Saudi Measures to Cancel Flights Through Sana'a Airport

News - Yemen: Minister of Transport, Abdulwahab Al-Durra, condemned the US-Saudi aggression's decision to cancel flights and bookings through Sana'a International Airport, deeming it unacceptable and vowing to oppose these measures. He stated that the aim is to close Sana'a Airport again, harming the travel market and companies.

The Minister of Transport pointed out during a meeting with travel agents that the mercenaries' decision to cancel supplies and bookings will harm the travel market and companies.

Al-Durra emphasized that the travel companies' suffering began with the aggression's onset, requiring millions of dollars to reopen airports. He noted ongoing obstacles, including the cancellation of the Cairo flight after one trip and the economic blockade that has persisted since the aggression began. Only one truce-agreed flight was carried out, with limited flights to Jordan achieved after significant pressure and financial efforts.

He highlighted the recent illegal measures on banks and the non-approval of June flights as part of a broader economic blockade, intended to dissuade Yemen from supporting Gaza.

Acting Director of Yemen Airways, Khalil Jahaf, and Deputy Director of Civil Aviation, Raed Jabal, condemned the measures, warning they aim to close Sana'a Airport indirectly and devastate the air transport market, increasing Yemeni suffering.

On August 9, 2016, the Saudi-led coalition imposed restrictions on Yemen’s airspace, closing Sana’a Airport to commercial flights, trapping millions in a war zone, and hindering humanitarian and commercial goods movement. Thousands have died waiting for treatment, and commercial cargo, including medical supplies, has nearly halted, causing medicine prices to soar.

Despite the truce, the aggression coalition has limited flights to Jordan and failed to show seriousness in bringing peace to Yemen.
