Iran FM’s Saudi Arabia Trip Part of Diplomatic Push to Stop Israeli Genocide: Spokesman

News - Middle East: The Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman says Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi’s upcoming trip to Saudi Arabia is in line with Tehran's diplomatic efforts towards cessation of the Israeli regime’s ongoing regional atrocities.

The top diplomat "is heading to #SaudiArabia today in furtherance of our diplomatic efforts, in coordination with countries of the region, to stop the Israeli regime's genocide & aggression and to alleviate the pain and suffering of our brothers and sisters in #Gaza and #Lebanon," Esmaeil Baghaei wrote in a post on X on Wednesday, adding, "Carnage and aggression must be stopped."

He was referring to the regime’s October 7, 2023-present war on the Gaza Strip that has so far killed nearly 42,000 Palestinians, mostly women and children, as well as its escalated attacks on Lebanon, which have claimed thousands of other lives.

Speaking on the sidelines of a summit in the Iranian capital Tehran on Tuesday, Araghchi addressed the issue of his pending trip that would also take him to other regional countries.

“Our dialogue continues regarding developments in the region, aimed at preventing the shameless crimes of the Zionist regime in Lebanon, in continuation of their crimes in Gaza,” he said.

“We will work towards a collective effort by regional countries to stop the brutal attacks in Lebanon,” he added.

Shedding further light on the contents of the upcoming tour, Baghaei, meanwhile, noted that "Iran is determined to keep consolidating its relations with its neighbors in pursuit of sustainable security & stability as well as economic cooperation that would benefit all nations of the region."

Araghchi visited Beirut on October 4 as part of a two-day regional tour, and held talks with Lebanese officials before visiting Damascus the following day to meet with Syrian leaders.
