Russian Air Defenses Shoot Down 70 Ukrainian Drones

News - Middle East: Russian air defenses have downed as many as 70 drones launhced by Ukraine over six Russian regions, the biggest drone attack by Kiev agianst the country.

Russia’s Defense Ministry reported on Sunday that half of the Ukrainian drones were downed over Moscow.

"Between 7:00 am and 10:00 am Moscow time (4:00 am -7 am GMT) on November 10, an attempt by the Kiev regime to conduct a terrorist attack against facilities on Russian soil using fixed-wing UAVs was thwarted," the ministry said.

"Air defense forces on duty intercepted and destroyed 70 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, including 34 over the Moscow Region, 14 over the Bryansk Region, seven over the Oryol Region, seven over the Kaluga Region, six over the Kursk Region, and two over the Tula Region," the ministry added.

One woman was injured and a Moscow airport was temporarily closed due to Ukraine's drone attack. Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said no one was hurt in Moscow itself.

The attack came as Russian troops continued to gain victories in the  Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, liberating another village in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR).

Russian Armed Forces have liberated the village of Volchenka in DPR, Russia's Defense Ministry said. "Units from the Battlegroup Center have liberated the locality of Volchenka in the Donetsk People’s Republic," it added.

Meanwhile, as Russian Armed Forces continue to make steady gains on the battlefield, the outgoing European Union Foreign Policy Chief Josep Borrell visited Kiev in a seeming show of support for the Ukrainian war.

Borrell, who leaves office next month, told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Saturday that the EU will continue to support the pro-Western leader.

The EU policy chief told the actor-turned-politician that Brussels has “been supporting Ukraine since the beginning, and on this my last visit to Ukraine, I convey the same message."

The EU "will support you as much as we can," Borrell explained to the Ukrainian president.

Borrell’s visit to Ukraine comes as Western allies led by US President-elect Donald Trump have signaled that Kiev may have to cede territory to seek peace with Russia.

Trump has in the past blamed Zelensky for starting the war against Russia.

“I think Zelensky is one of the greatest salesmen I’ve ever seen,” Trump told the PBD Podcast, hinting at billions of dollars worth of Western military aid Kiev has received to counter Russia over the past two and a half years.

"That doesn't mean I don't want to help him because I feel very badly for those people. But he should never have let that war start. The war's a loser.”

Trump holds Zelensky responsible for failing to reach a peace deal with Russia, suggesting Kiev may have to cede some Ukrainian territory to Russia to make the deal work.

Russia launched its special military campaign in Donbas in 2022 to stop NATO's encroachment on its eastern border.
