The Russian outlet Dzen Ru – Defenki Zelenova Kraya reported on Tuesday that the Middle East is now devoid of a US aircraft carrier for the second time in less than a year, following the departure of the USS Abraham Lincoln from the Arabian Sea after direct attacks by Yemeni forces.
The report emphasized that the current situation with the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) indicates unexpected developments, with its behavior deviating from the standard operational patterns of carrier groups in combat scenarios.
It noted the significant disruption to critical trade routes, forcing US commercial ships to take longer and costlier routes around Africa. The report humorously speculated on Yemen's potential future engagements, particularly targeting the smaller USS Nimitz and the anticipated arrival of the USS Truman in the Red Sea.
Lebanese strategic and military expert Brigadier General Omar Maarabouni described the absence of aircraft carriers from the US Fifth Fleet as a significant shift in warfare. Speaking to Al-Masirah TV, he stated that this undermines the fleet’s maneuverability and influence, highlighting Yemen's growing impact on naval engagements as a transformative development in maritime warfare.
Yemen has declared open support for Palestine’s struggle against the Israeli occupation since the regime launched a devastating war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, after the territory’s Palestinian resistance movements carried out Operation Al-Aqsa Storm against the occupying entity.
The Yemeni Armed Forces have achieved significant victories against the naval forces of the US, the UK, and Israel. These operations led to the effective shutdown of the Port of Eilat, also known as Um Rashrash, and forced the US aircraft carriers Eisenhower and Roosevelt to retreat from the Red Sea. The Yemeni forces also sank or damaged dozens of Israeli-linked ships.
These achievements have surprised many observers, as Yemen was not previously regarded as a significant naval power. The Yemeni Armed Forces have vowed to continue their operations as long as the Israeli regime maintains its war and siege against Palestinian territories.
So far, Israel has killed at least over 44,249 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and injured over 104,746 others in Gaza.
