“The assault against Syria is sponsored by the US and Israel, the Takfiri groups have always been their tools since 2011 when the crisis began in Syria,” Sheikh Naim Qassem said on Thursday.
It came after “their failure in Gaza… and after the agreement on ending the aggression on Lebanon and the failure of the attempts to neutralize Syria,” he added.
Sheikh Qassem said the terrorists are trying to overthrow the government in Syria and cause chaos in the country over its support for the resistance, but they “will not be able to achieve their goals despite what they have done in past days.”
“We as Hezbollah will be by Syria’s side in thwarting the goals of this aggression as much as we can,” he added.
Sheikh Qassem warned the Arab regimes which remained silent on the aggression on Gaza and now on the onslaught against Syria that “every gain for Israel is a loss for you as well, and not only a loss for Palestine, Syria and Lebanon and others.”
“We are facing a very dangerous expansionist Israeli project in the Middle East.”
Terror outfits led by the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS) have launched a large-scale assault in Syria, occupying some territories in the northwest of the Arab country.
Syria’s armed forces continue to fight the foreign-backed terrorists, inflicting heavy losses on them.
‘Hezbollah is powerful’
Elsewhere in his remarks, Qassem reiterated that Hezbollah remains “powerful”, despite 14 months of fighting with the occupying regime of Israel.
“Hezbollah is strong with its structure, parliamentary representation, popularity, and institutions...and because it stands for the right, the Palestinian’s right to liberate their land and the Lebanese’ right to liberate their land.”
Qassem noted that Israel’s aggression on Lebanon failed to achieve its goals, including eliminating the resistance movement.
He attributed the victory against Israel to “three” factors; namely the steadfastness of the resistance fighters, the blood of and sacrifices made by the martyrs, particularly his predecessor Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, which, he said, increased the determination of the group, and the restoration of the command and control structure of Hezbollah which managed to run the battle “efficiently.”
“We won because our resistance remains and continues and will shine even more,” he said.
Israel was forced to accept a ceasefire with Hezbollah after suffering heavy losses following more than 14 months of fighting and failing to achieve its goals in its aggression on Lebanon. The truce agreement officially came into effect last week.
Qassem stressed that Hezbollah will assess the crises that gripped the resistance and “benefit from lessons to develop” its performance in all fields.
“The resistance has suffered serious injuries, but it’s recovering, God willing, gradually over time.”
Hezbollah opened a support front for Palestinians in Gaza only a day after the Israeli regime unleashed its war against the besieged territory in October 2023, launching numerous retaliatory attacks against Israeli targets in the occupied territories.
