ASPIDES Commander Admits Failure in the Red Sea

News - Middle East: Amid ongoing and growing American and Israeli acknowledgments of failure in countering Yemen’s strategic operations, the commander of the European mission to protect Zionist ships in the Red Sea (ASPIDES) admitted that the mission has faltered.

Admiral Vassilios Gryparis, in comments published by the Norwegian-British website TradeWinds, confirmed the Yemeni Armed Forces’ accounts regarding the categories of targeted ships, highlighting a comprehensive failure of the Zionist-Western coalition both on the ground and in the media.

According to Gryparis, the nine-month mission to reassure commercial ships about returning to the region has been disrupted due to the failure of European countries to provide enough ships for close protection tasks in the Red Sea.

“Numerous appeals to add two destroyers and one frigate have so far gone unanswered, with only Italy, Greece, and France contributing to the force. Germany’s commitment to providing an additional frigate has been delayed," he added.

The European mission commander also noted that shipping companies at risk of being targeted are extremely reluctant to return to the Red Sea. Gryparis affirmed that some vessels could resume traditional trade routes immediately, as they face no risk of attack. These are ships with no ties to the UK, US, or Israel, nor were they part of fleets docking at Israeli ports.

These admissions underscore the ongoing challenges faced by the Zionist-Western coalition in countering Yemen’s maritime operations. They also reflect the broader failure of efforts by Israel, its American and British allies, and European partners to halt Yemen’s support for Gaza.

After October 2023, Yemen’s Armed Forces carried out operations in support of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, who are enduring a genocidal Israeli war.

They were also meant as a response to the attacks that the US and the UK have been staging against Yemen as means of trying to stop its pro-Palestinian operations, Saree stated.

The Armed Forces have vowed to sustain their operations as long as the Israeli regime keeps up the brutal military onslaught that has so far claimed the lives of nearly 44,000 Palestinians, most of them women and children.

They have also pledged to continue their strikes so long as the regime retains a 2006-present siege that it has been enforcing against Gaza, and has markedly tightened during the war.
