Yemeni Journalists’ Union Condemns Israeli Targeting of Palestinian Journalist Iman Al-Shanti

News - Yemen: The Yemeni Journalists’ Union condemned the Israeli targeting of Palestinian journalist Iman Al-Shanti, a broadcaster at the local Voice of Al-Aqsa radio station. She, along with her husband and three children, was killed when Israeli forces bombed a residential building in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood, northwest of Gaza City.

In a statement, the union denounced the ongoing bloodshed in Gaza and the brutal aggression of the Israeli regime, which aims to silence the truth by directly targeting journalists and media workers. The number of Palestinian journalists killed in the ongoing aggression on Gaza has now risen to 193.

The union also condemned the global, international, and Arab silence in the face of such heinous crimes. It highlighted that 400 violations against journalists and media personnel have been recorded during the aggression, including the arrest of 40 journalists. Israeli forces have destroyed most offices of local and international media institutions in Gaza, forcing the closure of local radio stations due to displacement, lack of resources, and the absence of electricity and internet needed for journalistic work.

The union called on human rights organizations, media institutions, and all freedom-loving and honorable people worldwide to expose the Israeli regime's crimes and intensify efforts to stop this unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe in modern history.

Journalists in Gaza face deadly risks amid Israel's ongoing war, with at least 18 media workers killed in November alone, according to MADA. The Israeli military has reportedly targeted journalists and destroyed their homes to suppress coverage of human rights violations.

Since October 2023, 192 journalists have been killed, with 65 violations against media workers documented in Gaza and the West Bank. Journalists also face communication blackouts, power shortages, and restricted access, complicating their work.

The war, launched after Hamas's Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, has killed over 44,805 Palestinians and injured more than 106,257. Calls grow for international action to hold Israeli leaders accountable for war crimes and protect journalists in conflict zones.
