Yemeni Journalists Condemn Targeting of Palestinian Journalist Baloosha in Gaza

News - Yemen: The Yemeni Journalists' Union strongly condemned the Israeli entity's targeting of Palestinian journalist Mohammed Baloosha, a correspondent for Al-Mashhad channel, by a drone strike in Ahmad Yassin Street in the Safatawi neighborhood, northern Gaza, which led to his immediate martyrdom.

The union also condemned the targeting of photojournalist Shadi Al-Selfiti, who was martyred in an Israeli airstrike that targeted a group of citizens near the industrial area in western Gaza City.

The statement highlighted that the death toll of journalist martyrs had risen to 196 since the genocide war began on October 7, 2023. It denounced these brutal practices against the journalists covering the Palestinian cause, who carry the immense responsibility of showing the world the injustice faced by the Palestinian people. They have shown loyalty to Allah and their country in confronting the most severe aggression.

The Yemeni Journalists' Union called on the silent world to reassess its position and to seriously stand for humanity, calling for an end to the brutal massacres perpetrated by the Israeli occupation against the Palestinian people, especially in Gaza.

The union also emphasized the need to highlight the suffering of children, women, and innocent people to the international community, which will forever bear witness to the scale of the catastrophe inflicted on the Palestinian people.

Journalists in Gaza face deadly risks amid Israel's ongoing war, with at least 18 media workers killed in November alone, according to MADA. The Israeli military has reportedly targeted journalists and destroyed their homes to suppress coverage of human rights violations.

Since October 2023, 196 journalists have been killed, with over 65 violations against media workers documented in Gaza and the West Bank. Journalists also face communication blackouts, power shortages, and restricted access, complicating their work.

The war, launched after Hamas's Operation Al-Aqsa Flood, has killed over 44,000 Palestinians and injured more than 106,000. Calls grow for international action to hold Israeli leaders accountable for war crimes and protect journalists in conflict zones.
