The outcome was tragic: 12 civilians were killed, and over 26 others were injured, including women, children, and first responders. These airstrikes caused extensive damage to public and private properties, displaced dozens of families, and demonstrated a blatant disregard for international humanitarian laws and conventions.
Below are detailed accounts of some of these heinous incidents:
2016: US-Saudi War Crime Targets Education in Sa'adah
On the same day and year, the governorate of Sa'adah was subjected to airstrikes by the US-Saudi aggression, committing a crime against the educational infrastructure. Brutal strikes targeted a school in the Falah area of Majz district, depriving hundreds of boys and girls of their right to education. The school was completely destroyed, and nearby homes and properties were damaged, terrifying women and children.
The scattered remnants of desks and books clearly show the extent of destruction to the school. These painful scenes reveal the aggression’s brutality and its deliberate targeting of Yemen's educational infrastructure, aiming to deprive future generations of their right to education and a better future.
2017: 13 Casualties in Massacre Targeting Mosque, School, Homes in Sana'a
In a new war crime by US-Saudi airstrikes on this day in 2017, aggression targeted a school, a mosque, and several homes in the Bani Yusuf area of Al-Haymah Al-Dakhiliyah district in Sana'a governorate. The massacre claimed the lives of nine civilians, including women and children, injured four others, and resulted in the destruction of the mosque, school, and nearby homes. Dozens of families were displaced, and the area’s residents were terrorized.
2017: Cluster Bomb Airstrikes Spread Terror in Al-Sheikh, Sa'adah
On a day that should have been ordinary, the US-Saudi aggression turned the reality of Al-Sheikh area in Munabbih district, Sa'adah governorate, into a living hell. On January 6, 2017, Saudi warplanes committed a new war crime, targeting the area with four cluster bomb airstrikes, causing massive destruction, significant losses to infrastructure and property, and terrifying innocent residents.
In blatant defiance of international and humanitarian laws, the aggression used internationally banned cluster bombs, scattering shrapnel randomly and turning the area into a battlefield. Destroyed homes, uprooted fruit trees, and polluted water sources were all that remained in the aftermath.
2018: Four Civilian Targets Struck in One Day in Sa'adah
In a continuation of its crimes against Yemenis, the US-Saudi aggression carried out a series of airstrikes in Sa'adah governorate on January 6, 2018. These strikes targeted civilian areas, causing widespread destruction and heavy losses in lives and property. These heinous crimes reflect the systematic aggression against Yemen, targeting both infrastructure and civilians.
Crime 1: The airstrikes hit the Jiyash market for vegetables and fruits in Sa'adah city, causing widespread destruction and significant losses to farmers and traders. This deliberate attack on a popular market, a source of livelihood for hundreds of families, reveals the extent of the aggression’s cruelty.
Crime 2: Another strike targeted the home of Majed Zoqom in the Khafji area of Sahar district, injuring three civilians, including children, and completely destroying the home, displacing the entire family. The bloodied victims on hospital beds reflected the aggression’s savagery and its ongoing attempts to exterminate the Yemeni people.
Crime 3: On the same day, the aggression launched four airstrikes on a mosque and the home of Sheikh Hussein Abu Obeid in Sahar district. These strikes killed one person, injured another, and completely destroyed the mosque and home, causing damage to nearby farms, properties, and vehicles. This deliberate targeting of religious and civilian sites is a blatant violation of human values and religious principles.
Crime 4: Another airstrike hit a central gas station in the Ahmah Al-Talh area of Sahar district, injuring several people. This attack aimed to paralyze the daily lives of citizens and exacerbate their humanitarian suffering.
2019: A Civilian Martyr in US-Saudi Airstrikes on Sa'adah
On January 6, 2019, loud explosions shattered the silence of a small village in Razih district, Sa'adah governorate. Residents awoke to another nightmare created by US-Saudi aggression.
On that grim day, warplanes targeted the home of a local civilian, reducing it to rubble. The attack left no room for mercy, taking the life of a simple man who wanted nothing more than to live in peace with his family.
On a single day across nine years, more than ten Yemeni areas can recount how Saudi-American warplanes "excel" at committing war crimes and genocide through dozens of brutal airstrikes and internationally banned cluster bombs. There is neither enough time nor space to describe all the damages—painful and widespread. A glance at the destruction is a jolt to memory and conscience.
The deliberate targeting of civilians and vital infrastructure in Yemen violates international laws and constitutes crimes against humanity. These incidents highlight the urgent need for global action to hold the perpetrators accountable and to bring an end to the suffering of innocent Yemenis.
The continued aggression threatens not only the lives of Yemeni civilians but also the future of the nation, leaving lasting scars on its economy, education system, and social fabric.
