Jan. Over 9 Years: Casualties, Livestock Deaths, and Destruction Due to US-Saudi Aggression on Yemen

Yemen: The US-Saudi aggression continued to commit war crimes on January 7 in the years 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019. The attacks involved brutal airstrikes and internationally prohibited cluster bombs targeting markets, residential neighborhoods, mosques, Al-Sabeen Square, farms, and communication networks in the Yemeni governorates of Sana'a, Sa'adah, Hodeidah, and Hajjah.

Highlights of the Events:

2016: Injuries from Repeated Airstrikes on Al-Sabeen Platform in Sana'a

On January 7, 2016, airstrikes targeted Al-Sabeen Square, a site for national celebrations, turning it into rubble and injuring civilians. The destruction symbolized the aggressors' animosity toward Yemen’s heritage and identity, including its national flag, which continued to wave defiantly amid the ruins.

2016: Cluster Bombs Devastate Farms in Sa'adah

Cluster munitions targeted Al-Abu Jabara Valley and Al-Buqa’ in Sa'adah, leading to environmental destruction, agricultural losses, and enduring risks from unexploded ordnance. Farmers described their fields as uninhabitable due to contamination, with their livelihoods and food sources obliterated.

2017: Communication Networks Destroyed in Hajjah

Airstrikes destroyed a communications network in Hajjah, isolating the area and exacerbating humanitarian challenges. Residents reported being unable to contact family members, access medical help, or receive remittances, deepening the region's suffering.

2018: Civilians and Livelihoods Attacked in Sa'adah

Shelling of Al-Hafra market in Munabbih district injured two civilians and caused significant damage to shops, while airstrikes destroyed a poultry farm in Dammaj, resulting in massive economic losses for its owner and workers.

The attacks highlighted the deliberate targeting of Yemen’s economic lifelines, further impoverishing its citizens.

2019: Livestock Losses in Sana'a

Airstrikes on a farm in Bani Bahloul, Sana'a, killed over 50 sheep and goats and injured their shepherd. These attacks showcased the aggression’s intent to destroy Yemen’s agricultural resources and exacerbate its humanitarian crisis.

The US-Saudi aggression has consistently targeted Yemen’s civilians, infrastructure, and economic resources, violating international humanitarian law. The ongoing atrocities demand urgent international action to end the war, lift the blockade, and provide relief to the Yemeni people.
