Jan. 11 Over 9 Years: 21 Casualties in US-Saudi Aggression War Crimes Against Yemen

Yemen: On January 11, during the years 2016 and 2018, the US-Saudi aggression continued its war crimes against Yemen through brutal airstrikes, cluster bombs, and artillery shelling. These attacks targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure in various areas of Sa'adah Governorate, resulting in 21 casualties, including 12 martyrs and nine injured, among them women and children.

The attacks also caused the death of livestock, destruction of homes, shops, a gas station, a mosque (including its Qur'ans), a school, a farm, a water tank, and tents of nomadic families. These acts deepened the suffering of civilians, worsened living conditions, deprived hundreds of students of education, and turned the governorate, especially border districts, into uninhabitable scorched land.

Key Details:

2016: 17 Casualties in Sa'adah Attacks

On this date, the coalition conducted numerous airstrikes in Sa'adah, targeting a gas station in Al-Saifi, Sahar District, as well as a mosque, a school, and homes in Baqim District. The attacks displaced dozens of families and caused extensive destruction, depriving many of their livelihoods and access to education.

In Baqim District, the airstrikes completely destroyed a school, homes, and shops, forcing families to flee. Cluster bombs, some unexploded, were found amidst the ruins, posing ongoing threats to civilians.

2018: 4 Casualties in Continued Attacks in Sa'adah

In 2018, coalition airstrikes targeted nomadic families in the Al-Safra District, killing two people and injuring one. Livestock were also killed, and families lost their basic belongings as their tents were burned.

Additionally, homes in the Munabbih District were bombarded with heavy artillery, displacing families and destroying infrastructure. In Majz District, airstrikes targeted a farm, destroying its water reservoir and devastating livelihoods.

The Broader Impact:

These repeated crimes highlight the ongoing suffering of Yemeni civilians over nine years of aggression. Sa'adah, a symbol of resilience and resistance, has faced relentless attacks aimed at breaking the spirit of its people.

The indiscriminate targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a blatant violation of international humanitarian and human rights laws. The international community must act urgently to end these war crimes, hold perpetrators accountable, and bring justice to Yemen.
