Jan. 12 Over 9 Years: Over 50 Casualties, Along with Massive Destruction in US-Saudi War Crimes in Yemen

Yemen: On January 12, during the years 2016, 2017, 2019, and 2022, the US-Saudi aggression continued committing war crimes and genocidal acts against humanity in Yemen. With relentless airstrikes, cluster bombs, and artillery shelling, they targeted civilians and civilian infrastructure in various provinces including Sana'a, Sa'adah, Al-Jawf, and Hodeidah.

These crimes resulted in the deaths of 23 people and left more than 25 injured, most of whom were women and children, including a pregnant woman. Livestock perished, homes and commercial properties were destroyed, places of worship were targeted, as well as tourist facilities, warehouses, farms, and water reservoirs. This violence deepened the suffering of the Yemeni people, polluted the environment, and deprived hundreds of families of their properties, homes, and sources of income, leaving harrowing scenes that shocked humanity.

Key Incidents Across the Years:

January 12, 2016: Woman Martyred and Four Injured in Sa'adah

In Sa'adah, the aggression launched airstrikes on the districts of Razih and Saqin. In Razih, strikes on Bani Qam and Al-Shawareq areas resulted in the martyrdom of one woman and severe injuries to four others. Testimonies from locals describe the destruction of homes, farms, vehicles, and water reservoirs, leaving families devastated. Similar devastation unfolded in Saqin, where airstrikes spread terror among residents.

2016: 32 Victims in Sana’a

In Sana’a, airstrikes targeted two sites: Hammam Jaraf in Bilad Al-Rus, a natural thermal bath that served as a local retreat, and the Khamran Company warehouse in the capital. The first attack resulted in 14 martyrs and 18 injured, with gruesome scenes of destroyed bodies, particularly of women and children. Residents recount the horrifying moments when their community was turned into a battlefield.

The second attack on the Khamran warehouse caused severe property damage and forced many families to flee, spreading fear among children and women. Testimonies from affected individuals revealed the extent of material and emotional devastation, highlighting the indiscriminate nature of the attacks.

2017: Seven Martyrs in Hodeidah

In Hodeidah, the family of Jamai Al-Masha'sha was massacred when their home in Al-Jah Al-Ala, Beit Al-Faqih district, was directly targeted. Neighbors describe the scene of destruction, with bodies buried under rubble, as grieving family members mourned the loss of loved ones.

2017: Cluster Bombs in Sa'adah

In Sa'adah, airstrikes targeted Meran, Haydan district, and other border villages in Al-Zahir district. The attacks caused the martyrdom of civilians, injuries, and extensive destruction of infrastructure. The use of internationally banned cluster munitions inflicted long-term harm, contaminating farmland and killing livestock. Survivors spoke of ongoing fear, with many forced to abandon their homes due to the constant bombardment.

2019: Destruction in Al-Jawf

In Al-Jawf’s Al-Matun district, the aggression directly targeted homes and farms with indiscriminate airstrikes. This resulted in widespread destruction, displacing families, and depriving many of essential resources like water after airstrikes destroyed reservoirs.

These war crimes and acts of aggression have not only led to loss of life but have caused enduring psychological, environmental, and economic damage. Such actions constitute clear violations of international humanitarian law. The Yemeni people continue to call upon the international community to hold the aggressors accountable and put an end to these atrocities.
