These attacks resulted in the deaths of 22 individuals and injuries to 30 others, most of them women and children. Among these crimes was the assassination of attorney Faisal Al-Asadi by aggression-aligned mercenaries, as well as the destruction of homes, hospitals, schools, markets, and other civilian infrastructure. The airstrikes also devastated agricultural equipment and lands, polluted the environment, and deployed internationally prohibited weapons, depriving hundreds of families of their homes, livelihoods, and access to basic necessities. These actions represent an assault on the public's peace, education, and the fundamental rights of future generations.
Below are some key incidents from January 13 across several years:
2016: 7 Casualties from One Family in Amran
In Amran's Houth District, the aggression targeted the home of citizen Mohsen Saleh Al-Qamali with a series of airstrikes. The attack killed Al-Qamali and his wife and injured five others, mostly women and children, while turning their home into rubble. The horror was amplified when rescuers attempting to save the injured were targeted by additional strikes, further terrorizing the community.
2016: Destruction of Homes and Farms in Sa'adah
The aggression destroyed homes and farms in the Ma’bar area of Sa'adah’s Majz District. These airstrikes left families displaced, farms ruined, and lives upended, creating further suffering for innocent civilians who had no involvement in any conflict.
2016: Assassination of Attorney Faisal Al-Asadi and Airstrikes in Sana'a
In Sana’a’s Bani Al-Harith District, airstrikes destroyed homes and properties. Meanwhile, mercenaries assassinated prominent attorney Faisal Al-Asadi in Ma’een District, reflecting a systematic targeting of civilians, professionals, and infrastructure.
2017: 38 Casualties in Taiz Airstrikes
The aggression struck Al-Rubai Market in Taiz, targeting a rest stop and a fuel tanker, leaving 17 dead and 13 injured. The destruction of civilian spaces, including markets and rest areas, underscored the indiscriminate targeting by the aggression. That same day, a popular restaurant in Al-Mokha was bombed, killing two and injuring six.
2017: Cluster Bombs Devastate Sa'adah
Cluster bombs were used in a series of airstrikes on Barakan in Razih District, Sa'adah. These internationally banned munitions caused widespread injuries, contaminated farmland, and posed a long-term threat to civilians.
2017: Destruction of Abu Mansour Agricultural Center in Hodeidah
The aggression targeted the Abu Mansour Agricultural Center in Al-Dhahi District, striking a blow to Yemen’s food security and agricultural sector. This systematic attack on critical infrastructure worsened the humanitarian crisis in the region.
A Legacy of Suffering and Calls for Accountability
The recurring atrocities committed on January 13 over these years are emblematic of the broader pattern of systematic war crimes perpetrated by the US-Saudi coalition in Yemen. These acts have devastated civilian lives, infrastructure, and livelihoods, leaving a legacy of suffering that demands international accountability.
