Jan. 18 Over 9 Years: 22 Casualties in US-Saudi Aggression War Crimes in Yemen

Yemen: On January 18, during the years 2016 and 2018, the US-Saudi aggression continued to commit war crimes and acts of genocide through its brutal airstrikes targeting civilians in their homes, on public roads, and in civilian facilities and infrastructure across various regions of Yemen's Sa'adah and Al-Jawf governorates.

These attacks resulted in the deaths of 15 people and injuries to seven others, most of them women and children. They caused the destruction of dozens of homes, a mosque, a school, a water project, a public road, and a construction crane, as well as numerous citizen-owned vehicles and farms. Families were terrorized and displaced, adding to the already dire humanitarian crisis and worsening living conditions in the region.

Key Details of the Atrocities

2016: 19 Killed and Injured in Massacres and Civilian Infrastructure Destruction in Sa'adah

On January 18, 2016, the US-Saudi coalition committed three war crimes through direct airstrikes on the village of Al-Hayee in Maran, a construction crane on a public road in Sahar District, and citizens' homes and property in Sa'adah's old city. These strikes left 14 dead and five injured, including women and children, while causing significant destruction, displacement, and human suffering.

Maran Massacre: A Crime Against Humanity

In Maran village, Haydan District, the coalition's airstrikes claimed 14 lives and injured five others, targeting homes and civilian property. Entire families were annihilated, and the village was reduced to rubble. Witness accounts describe the use of American-made bombs and the horrifying scene of bodies scattered under the debris, with rescue efforts obstructed by continued airstrikes.

Sahar District: Targeting Civilian Infrastructure

In Sahar, airstrikes targeted a construction crane on the public road, destroying it completely and spreading fear among the local population.

Sa'adah City: Homes, Property, and Historic Wall Destroyed

Airstrikes in Sa'adah City targeted civilian homes, properties, and the city's historic wall, displacing families and causing extensive damage.

2016: Strikes on a Mosque, School, and Water Project in Al-Jawf

The coalition's airstrikes in Al-Ghayl District, Al-Jawf, targeted a mosque, school, and water project, leading to their total destruction. The strikes forced the displacement of residents and caused severe psychological trauma to women and children.

2018: Civilian Deaths and Infrastructure Destruction in Sa'adah

On the same date in 2018, the US-Saudi aggression launched two additional war crimes in Sa'adah.

As-Safra District: Road Bombing and Civilian Casualties

In As-Safra District, airstrikes targeted the main road connecting As-Safra to Kitaf, killing one person and injuring two others. The attack disrupted transportation and access to essential goods, worsening the humanitarian crisis.

Haydan District: Mosque and Farmland Targeted

In Al-Jaradi village, Haydan District, airstrikes hit a mosque and citizen-owned farmland, causing massive destruction. The mosque's minaret and Quranic pages were destroyed, leaving the local community devastated.

The crimes committed on January 18 are but a fraction of the documented atrocities inflicted upon the Yemeni people. Many others remain unrecorded. These heinous acts demand urgent action from the international community and the United Nations to hold perpetrators accountable and ensure justice for the victims.
