3000 Children with Cancer at Risk of Dying Due Aggression, Siege

News - Yemen: The Organization for Women and Children's Rights (Entisaf) announced that more than 3,000 children suffer from cancer and are at risk of dying as a result of the US-Saudi aggression and blockade.

The organization confirmed in a statement that cancer patients among children and women in Yemen have been living in long suffering for eight years because of the aggression, without anyone paying any attention to them.

It explained that children with leukemia are on the rise, as cases among children rose from 300 to 700 in Sana’a, and 1,000 children in the rest of the governorates.

It pointed to the lack of more than 50% of medicines for cancer patients as a result of the blockade and US-Saudi aggression, stressing that many children die as a result.

The organization pointed out that the aggression and blockade prevented children with cancer patients from traveling for treatment abroad, calling for the opening of Sana'a International Airport for humanitarian needs

It helds the US-Saudi aggression responsible for all crimes and violations against civilians, especially children, over a period of eight years.

For its part, The National Cancer Control Foundation in Ibb governorate made a distress call to support its affiliated Al-Amal Center for Oncology, to provide chemical pharmaceuticals that are running out.

The director of the foundation’s branch, Baligh Al-Taweel, explained, in a press conference, that Al-Amal Center launched this appeal to save the lives of thousands of people with cancer, most of whom are from the poorest families, noting that the cases registered with the foundation are between five thousand and 480 cases, and the center receives between 60- 70 cases.

He pointed out that the indebtedness of the center amounted to about 22 million riyals, at a time when it lacked the medicines needed to treat patients at a rate of 50%, while the rest of the medicines were about to run out.

Al-Taweel pointed out that the cessation of the UN assistance and the failure of some parties to pay what they promised about a year ago made the center stop, had it not been for its recent reliance on loans.

The director of the Foundation called on the international and humanitarian organizations to provide aid to the center to save patients' lives.

The US-Saudi siege and intense bombardment with prohibited weapons caused a high rate of congenital abnormalities and miscarriages, with an average of 350,000 miscarriages and 12,000 malformations.

The Ministry of Health indicated that as a result of the siege, premature births increased to 8% compared to the situation before the aggression, at a rate of 22,599 cases annually. The blockade has also caused an increase in the number of cancer patients by 50%, and the number of cases reached 46,204 cases registered during the year 2021.

The ministry indicated that the aggression prevented the entry of vital medical equipment, while international companies have refrained from supplying medicines to Yemen as a result of the blockade, pointing out that aid shipments expired as a result of their stay in Djibouti as a forced station for the passage of aid to Yemen.

The Ministry of Health stressed that lifting the siege and stopping the aggression completely is the first and correct step to address the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.

Saudi Arabia, backed by the US and its other regional allies, launched a devastating war on Yemen in March 2015. The seven years and half of war has killed hundreds of thousands of people and destroyed much of the country’s infrastructure. Yemeni people are facing malnutrition, hunger, and famine, which have increased risks of disease and starvation.

In light of its defeats on various frontlines and its failure to achieve any of its objectives, the US-Saudi aggression is notorious for its indiscrimination shown by its numerous attacks against densely-populated centers, including markets, hospitals, farms and schools.
