Yemen: There is another battle afflicting Yemen, and in particular the governorates under the US-Saudi occupation, represented by the policy of starvation, in light of the collapse of the local currency and the rise in prices during the past weeks.

Aden and the rest of the southern and eastern Yemeni governorates have been suffering since being controlled by the aggression coalition in late 2015, from the continuous collapse of the security and economic conditions, which was accompanied by a significant loss of all basic services.

Recent events foreshadow an imminent living disaster whose tragedy will be swallowed by citizens in Aden and the areas controlled by the coalition.

Hundreds of residents of Aden and southern and eastern Yemen have organized popular protests over the past years, calling on the pro-aggression government to protect the currency from collapse. However, the crisis of the riyal's collapse against foreign currencies does not seem close to ending. The price of The Yemeni riyal has reached 1,347 riyals for one dollar in the last two years.

The citizens expressed their great discontent with the high prices of food and consumer goods, vegetables and meat, including fish, which the city is famous for in abundance in the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

Citizens emphasized that most of them are now unable to provide the most basic commodities for their families in light of their weak purchasing power, due to the delay in paying their salaries, and the corruption of government officials.

Aden is witnessing an unprecedented economic crisis due to the collapse of various basic services in electricity, energy, health, water and sanitation, in addition to the security chaos that the city has been witnessing since the coalition entered the city in 2015.

Traders in the city of Aden announced last week an increase in commodity prices by 10% to keep pace with the accelerating collapse of the local currency.
