Minister of Transport Demands Stop Siege Imposed on Port of Hodeidah

News - Yemen: The Minister of Transport, Major General Abdulwahab Al-Durra, called on the UN redeployment team to completely rehabilitate the port of Hodeidah, stop siege imposed on the port, and improve the access of goods to the population of Yemen.

Al-Durra said that conditions in Al-Hodeidah governorate are improving, pointing out that the activity in Al-Hodeidah port is still partial and limited.

He explained that the port’s activity is limited to 35% of its capacity, and it receives 70% of the needs of the Yemeni population, indicating that this is due to the difficulty of transporting goods due to the delay in the port of Djibouti and the delay of ships.

Al-Durra pointed out that the difference in the transportation price between the port of Aden and the port of Hodeidah amounts to $2,000 per container, due to the increase in marine insurance.

He pointed out that Yemen submitted an objection to the Director of the UN Development Programme, because the reductions were limited to some ports, excluding the Red Sea ports.

Minister Al-Durra called for the efforts of the UN to be comprehensive for all ports, not just some, and for the efforts of the Hodeidah agreement to reflect the rehabilitation of the port of Hodeidah in a larger way.

The Minister of Transport also touched on the importance of restarting Hodeidah Airport, as a necessary step to alleviate the suffering of citizens.

He pointed out that discussions with the UN office are still ongoing to restore flights to Sana'a Airport, before reducing its to three flights.

Recently, the Minister of Transport, Major General Abdul-Wahhab Al-Durra, affirmed that the US-Saudi aggression continues conspiracy against the port of Hodeidah. Recently, it was not included in the agreement to reduce marine insurance.

“Our ports were subjected to the most heinous air strikes and economic blockade by US-Saudi coalition of aggression," he confirmed

He called for an end to the unjust and unfair inspection in the port of Djibouti, which leads to higher costs, pointing out that the agreement of reduced marine insurance must include all Yemeni ports.

He pointed out that the aggression party and the mercenary government are seeking to thwart any endeavors undertaken by Sana'a to alleviate the suffering of people through the port of Hodeidah and Sana'a airport.

The Minister of Transport stressed that "we will not stand idly by in front of any new attempts to impose blockade on the port of Hodeidah."
