Yemen’s Response to US-UK Militarization of the Red Sea Shocks Washington

Yemen:  The United States and Britain launched a campaign against Yemen last January, boasting about their capability to destroy Yemeni capabilities and halt the operations of the Armed Forces in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden. However, these claims quickly crumbled.

The US and Britain were taken aback by surprises regarding the development of Yemen's military capabilities and the challenges in influencing them. They struggled to accurately assess the size and type of Yemeni naval arsenal. Additionally, Sana'a's clear intelligence superiority in obtaining accurate information for operations over a vast maritime theater, beyond the full coverage of the US and Britain, became evident. This shock was immediately apparent in the ongoing official admissions of failure in Yemen, indicating that the situation was far from over. Yemen still holds many options for escalation in a confrontation that Americans and British acknowledge as entirely new to them.

"They continue to surprise us, and we have no good idea of what they still possess," remarked a senior US defense official in a report published by CNN on Friday. This comment underscores that, after about a month and a half since the aggression against Yemen began, American forces remained entirely incapable of dealing with the Yemeni front.

This admission confirms that Washington is more confused than at the beginning of the aggression. It relied on operational calculations that proved completely wrong, and now it struggles to find a foothold. Rear Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of the US Fifth Fleet, stated in an interview with CBS at the end of last January, "US forces have 9 to 15 seconds to deal with any Yemeni missile or drone," but the next day, the Armed Forces targeted the destroyer USS Gravely. US officials revealed that the attack bypassed the destroyer's missile defense layers, forcing the destroyer to resort to its last defense, a machine gun. Analysts for CNN suggested that a Yemeni missile was only about two seconds away from hitting the destroyer, indicating that intercepting it at that distance would still have caused damage.

American forces were genuinely surprised to find their operational calculations wrong, and the Yemeni Armed Forces rapidly utilized the confrontation data to develop missiles that surpassed advanced American missile defense systems. This was confirmed by the Leader of the Revolution, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badreddin al-Houthi, in his recent speech.

The fact that the operational calculations of American forces in confronting Yemen were proven wrong was intentional from the start. By the admission of the US itself, this is the first time in history that anti-ship ballistic missiles have been launched, especially targeting American naval vessels. Therefore, American forces cannot possess accurate information about a confrontation they have never experienced before, which places control firmly in the hands of the Yemeni Naval Forces.

These admissions clearly confirm that the Yemeni Armed Forces not only presented Americans and the British with an unfamiliar battle but proved themselves superior, surpassing all their calculations and steps. This means that their utilization of the confrontation data will be much more effective. There is indeed a race of experience taking place on the field, as American officers admit they are learning on the job, while the leader of the revolution asserts that the confrontation contributes to the development of Yemeni capabilities, unlike the Americans. The confirmation from the Leader of the Revolution is practically evident on the ground through the ability to bypass American defenses and introduce new weapons.

CNN reported many American officials stating that the US does not even have a computational standard that allows it to assess the impact of its strikes on Yemeni capabilities, meaning it is unable to "learn" from battle data, unlike the Yemeni Armed Forces.

As a result, the CNN report indicates that American officials "are struggling with how to increase pressure" on Yemen, with "some officials within the Biden administration seeing that using force alone is ineffective, and others pointing out that it is 'extremely expensive and impractical' to continue launching million-dollar missiles at drones and cheaper missiles," meaning that the US currently relies solely on ineffective firepower to compensate for operational failure in achieving impactful results, leading to financial losses that cannot be compensated.

Therefore, Sayyed Abdulmalik Badreddin al-Houthi was keen in his recent speech to establish the equation of Yemeni operational superiority, issuing a clear challenge to the US to prove the Armed Forces wrong in identifying the identity and destination of any targeted ship. This is a harsh challenge for Washington, which had previously claimed that it had launched a cyber attack against Yemen, through an attack on an Iranian ship, but Yemeni operations escalated afterward, proving that Americans do not know how the Yemeni Navy obtains information and that all their estimations are wrong.

In conclusion, data from nearly a month and a half of direct confrontation between Yemen and the US and Britain in the Red Sea, the Arabian Sea, and the Gulf of Aden all indicate Yemen's complete control of the battle, both in terms of establishing the equation of targeting hostile ships, including neutralizing defenses and intelligence superiority, as well as the ability to utilize the results to improve performance and means. This means that all open possibilities for the future of the confrontation are disastrous for the US and Britain, especially with the Yemeni leadership confirming a direction toward escalation.
